What is la diosa bastet?

La diosa Bastet, also known as Bast, was the ancient Egyptian goddess of fertility, childbirth, and domesticity. She was depicted as a woman with the head of a cat or lioness, and was considered to be the protector of Pharaohs and the country of Egypt.

Bastet was one of the most popular deities in Egyptian mythology and was worshipped from the Second Dynasty (2890 BCE) until the Christianization of Egypt (4th century CE). Her cult center was located in the city of Bubastis, where an annual festival was held in her honour.

Bastet was believed to have strong protective powers and was often invoked by Egyptian women during childbirth. She was also associated with music and dance, and was sometimes depicted holding a sistrum, which was a musical instrument used in ceremonies and religious rituals.

Over time, Bastet's role evolved, and she became associated with pleasure, sensuality, and sexuality. Later, she was merged with the goddess Wadjet to form the composite deity known as Bastet-Wadjet.

Today, Bastet is a popular symbol in modern Egyptian culture, and she is still revered by many as a powerful and protective goddess.
